Notice To New Members
ARC is run entirely by volunteers. To encourage participation and shared ownership, we have a volunteer requirement for all new members.  This workday is always the 2nd Saturday of each month from 8am to 12 noon.  All ranges are closed during this time.

The work day is a good way for existing and new members to meet and get to know other members.  It also shows prospective new members what is all involved in making the range run. Effective August 1st, 2017, any new member must attend 3 work days to move from a Probationary to a Full/Voting Member.

If a new member can absolutely not make it to Saturday work days, they may contact the Director of Facilities for alternatives. Alternatives are according to the Director’s schedule, not the probationary member's schedule.

There are 5 steps to becoming a member:

STEP 1. Sign Up

  • After deciding you wish to join, email membership@austinrifleclub.org to request the sign up link. Using the link, complete the membership application.

STEP 2. Complete a Personal Safety Evaluation

  • Attend the Personal Safety Evaluation shortly before the Range Orientation Class
    • An alternative to the safety evaluation is your successful participation in two matches hosted at our range within the last 6 months. Contact membership@austinrifleclub.org for more details about this option.

STEP 3. Complete the Range Orientation Class

  • After successfully completing a Prospect Safety Evaluation you must attend a Range Orientation Class held by Austin Rifle Club.
  • This is generally held on a Sunday afternoon at the ARC Education Building, and usually takes about 2 hours.
  • Bring with you your government-issued ID or Texas License to Carry, depending on your selections when signing up.
  • Pay your initiation fee, prorated dues, and criminal background check fee (if applicable)

STEP 4. Internal Review

The application is reviewed by the Director of Membership for completeness and accuracy. You will be notified of any outstanding requirements and once complete, your membership will be voted on at a board meeting. Note that it will probably take a 2-3 weeks for this step to be completed and for you to get your badge.

STEP 5. Probationary Membership

All new members spend their first 6 months and until they complete their volunteer time in a probationary period.

  • During this period, if you are found to be in violation of the range rules, damaging property, or behaving in an abusive or disrespectful manner, membership will be terminated without appeal. Any fees or dues previously paid will not be refunded.
  • During this period, you are not allowed to bring or sign-in guests.
  • During this period, you do not have voting rights.
